Fire Island — Draft Junior Ranger Booklet
Fire Island National Seashore is on the Atlantic coast, east of Long Island, in New York State.
During the summer of 2011, I was a Student Conservation Association / National Park Service Junior Ranger Volunteer assigned to Fire Island to design and write a booklet filled with creative projects meant to engage park visitors with diverse abilities and backgrounds in environmental sciences, physical recreation, and artistic activities.
At the end of the summer, Hurricane Irene blew in and significantly altered the island’s landscape.
You can download a copy of this unofficial draft of the booklet. It was created using an Apple computer, Lightroom, Photoshop, InDesign, my photographs of sea creatures, wildlife, scenery; plus my knowledge of ecology, marine biology, creative writing; and a sense of humor.
