1793 — Battle at Flamborough Head

Canterbury, England

It was an honor to speak at Captain Thomas Piercy’s funeral, to describe the steadfast loyalty, generosity, courage, and remarkable skills the Captain possessed; to say yes, if not for brave actions Piercy took, Pearson’s ship would have been destroyed by pirates and the convoy they guarded would have been transformed to a scene of robbery and murder. But Sir Richard Pearson could not describe that battle in detail, as Captain Piercy’s wife requested. He could not speak of the endless pain he and Thomas felt, caused by losing so many good men to cannon blasts and bullets and flames, aggravated by the horrible chorus of wounded men abandoned on the pirate ship screaming as it sank.
